Bloggy type blog thing

16 06 2007

Okay, so here goes. This is my blog, obviously. I’m not a great writer, I’m not about to write the greatest blog ever written, that will be formatted to perfection and have code embedded here there and everywhere. There will be opinions, thoughts, commentary and general moaning on this because, let’s be fair, that’s what blogs are for. Aren’t they?

Well, not if you believe the media I guess. There blogs are heralded as the new journalism, written by the next generation of socio-economic and political commentators. Or else they’re written by emo kids on myspace and livejournal about how no one understands them (Guys and girls, you’re 14. You’re emotional for no reason, constantly horny and have just begun to realise what a scary place the world really is. EVERYONE understands you.). This blog is for me to just talk about whatever happens to be on my mind or to talk about what I’ve done all week. At the moment that would be work, and it’s likely to be that for the next 3 months. But persevere and I’ll be back at uni and all will be well again.

Okay, so that’s the introduction to my blog, now me. Rinion Eruanna is an Elvish translation of my name, and consequently not my real name. I’m sad like that but that’s who I am I guess. I’m a geek, a weirdo and a nerd. I like Dungeons & Dragons, anime, computer games, sci-fi, fantasy and maps. I am a bit sad, but people seem to find it endearing somehow. I’m also gay, figured I’d clear that up before I ever bring up the subject of my boyfriend (Rob, who I love very much), but I’m not a stereotype and most folks don’t ever guess that I am unless I tell them. Which I don’t go around yelling to all and sundry, though if I’m asked I don’t deny it. I’m a student at St Andrews uni, studying Physical Geography and Geoscience, which is essentially glaciers, mountains etc. I either want to be a cartographer or secondary teacher when I graduate, I haven’t decided.

Well, that’s about it for this entry. You’ll probably find out more about me as this blog goes on, and if you’re actually reading this, you likely know me already. If not, cool.

Later guys and girls, have a good one.

Rinion Eruanna
